About the Architecture LibraryThe Architecture Library of the University of Maryland is one of eight libraries in the University of Maryland Libraries. It is located in the School of Architecture building offering convenient access for architecture students, faculty and staff, as well as researchers from outside the University. The Library’s collection provides resources and services to meet the instructional and research needs of the School of Architecture's programs in Architecture, Urban Studies and Planning, and Historic Preservation. The Architecture Library is administratively under the leadership of Joan Stahl, Branch Manager of the Art and Architecture Libraries. At present its co-branch, the Art Library, is located across the street from the School of Architecture in the Art/Sociology Building.Other libraries within the University of Maryland Libraries provide added resources and services to meet the needs of the School. In particular, McKeldin Library, the National Trust Library, the Marylandia collection, the Maps and GIS collections, and EPSL, provide resources essential for architectural research. The library looks very different today than it did just twenty-five years ago. Much has changed in the way that the Architecture Library provides scholarly information to support students and faculty in the School of Architecture. Intellectual content, once limited to the printed page, is increasingly available electronically. A primary goal is to make this body of knowledge accessible to our users, regardless of format. Our pledge is to keep abreast of changes in information technology that impacts our users. The libraries subscriptions to electronically published journals and databases are accessed through Research Port. School theses, published after 2003, are now accessed through the Digital Repository of the University of Maryland (DRUM). Two reference sources are electronically published by the library: the Worlds Fair Online Exhibit and the Research Materials for Architecture and the Built Environment Located in Metropolitan Washington, D.C. directory. The Library maintains both current and retrospective collections of material in the areas of architectural history, design and theory, urban design, building technology and historic preservation. The Architecture Library's Special Collections include a renowned collection of material on International Expositions from 1851 to 2000. . The Architecture Library was established in 1967 with an excellent collection that has remained the foundation upon which succeeding librarians have built. The Library collects in the areas of architectural history, design and theory; urban planning and design; and historic preservation. The collection is strong in works of individual architects and architectural firms, building types, and local history. The campus architecture collection holds 65,000 titles including the Architecture Library collection and wolumes in NTL. There are over 9,500 volumes of bound periodicals in the Architecture Library. The library subscribes to all but 2 periodical titles on the Association of Architecture School Librarians (AASL) list of core titles. Current journal subscriptions for Architecture number 223, including those accessed in print or electronically. The collection is augmented by 38 print titles in the subject area of Planning in McKeldin Library. The Architecture Library is located in Room 1102 (upper floor) of the School of Architecture building.
