This postcard features an illustration of the United States Government Building at the Louisiana Purchase International Exposition held in St. Louis in 1904.
Designed by James Knox Taylor and built at a cost of approximately $450,000, the U.S. Government Building measures 764 feet long by 175 feet wide and is capped with a dome 93 feet in diameter.
Note the moon appearing over the building in this souvenir postcard: When held to light, the daytime setting transforms into an illuminated nighttime scene, thus capturing the ambience experienced by visitors to the fair.
