This panoramic aerial view on the front cover of Official Book of Views of the Century of Progress Exposition reflects the colorful decorative scheme of that fair.
The 1893 exhibition in Chicago had adopted the architectural theme of the "White City," in which the 14 major exhibit halls conformed to a uniformly white appearance. Under the direction of Joseph Urban, the 1933 exhibition contrasted the earlier fair with its "Rainbow City" scheme, suggested by the vibrant colors used to illustrate the fair in this viewbook.
