Family farms havebeen
an important dimension of Maryland Agriculture since the state's
colonial beginnings through the present day. These agricultural
operations diversify Maryland's production, as the three family
farms highlighted in this exhibit demonstrate.
The Brooke
family maintained a diverse operation in which women played
an integral part; the Shipley family
planted vegetables and fruits for sale in urban centers; and
the Davis family shifted their farm
production towards dairy farming.
