Preservation microfilming of the Papers of Katherine Anne Porter, Djuna Barnes, and Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven is complete. The University of Maryland Libraries have 108 reels of microfilm that include the first six series of the Porter papers: Series I, Correspondence, 1880-1980; Series II, Writings, 1918-1979; Series III, Awards and Professional Activities, 1940-1976; Series IV, Financial and Legal, 1906-1977; Series V, Personal, 1927-1977; and Series VI, Clippings, 1919-1980. There are thirty-two reels of microfilm of the Papers of Djuna Barnes that include Series I, Personal and Family Papers, 1886-1980; Series II, Correspondence, 1911-1982; Series III, Writings, 1911-1980; and Series IV, Printed Matter, 1820-1981. The series of the Freytag-Loringhoven papers that have be filmed include Series I, Autobiography; Series II, Correspondence; and Series III, Manuscripts, Drafts, Notes. There are five reels of microfilm of these papers. The microfilmed portions of the Porter, Barnes, and Freytag-Loringhoven Papers are available for research use in the Maryland Room in Hornbake Library at the University of Maryland. In addition, the unfilmed portions of these collections are also open for consultation on site. Researchers may also gain access to the microfilm of the these papers through a research library near them. A researcher or qualified borrowing institution may initiate an loan request by contacting Beth Alvarez, Curator of Literary Manuscripts. Researchers may borrow three reels of microfilm per loan. The handling fee for loan of the microfilm is $10 per reel. Microfilm may be borrowed for two weeks with a two-week renewal period. Guides to the Katherine Anne Porter Papers, Djuna Barnes Papers, and the Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven Papers, all of which include microfilm reel inventories, has been mounted on the ArchivesUM.
