ARTH 302: Greek Art History and Archaeology

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF LIBRARY INSTRUCTION CLASS:
The University of Maryland Libraries have many resources that will help with research for ARTH 302. This class will provide students with an understanding of key bibliographic research tools. In addition, the session will cover information on citation guides, image resources, and academic integrity issues.

Because of licensing agreements, access to bibliographic databases,electronic journals, and digital film collections is restricted to UM faculty, staff, and students. Most databases and electronic journals may be accessed via Research Port.

Subscription Databases
- L'Année Philologique: Index to journal articles, books, articles in collections, and conference papers on multiple aspects of ancient Greek and Roman civilization.
- Bibliography of the History of Art: BHA contains abstracts and indexes of current publications in the history of art, including scholarly journals, conferences, book, exhibition reviews, and exhibition catalogues.
- DYABOLA: Archaeological resources, images & scholarship, for the classical period published from 1956 on, e.g., Census of Antique Art & Architecture; Corpus der Antiken Kunstwerke; Attische Grabreliefs; Winckelmannbibliographie; RGK Catalogue; DAI Subject Catalogue, etc.; Annual Archaeological Bibliography.
- Grove Art: Includes the full-text of the 34-volume 1996 print edition of the Dictionary of Art, with online updates and links to images in museum collections worldwide. Provides access to 45,000+ scholarly articles and links to 40,000+ images.
- JSTOR: Electronic archive of core journals in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Includes complete runs of journals with full-text of all articles published prior to the most current five years.
- WorldCat: Catalog of books, serial publications, media, visual materials, musical scores, and archival materials in libraries worldwide.

- DIOTIMA: An interdisciplinary resource for anyone interested in patterns of gender around the ancient Mediterranean;this site includes course materials, the beginnings of a systematic and searchable bibliography, and links to many on-line resources, including articles, book reviews, databases, and images.
- Perseus Digital Library: An interactive multi-media database for the study of the history, archaeology, art, and literature of archaic and classical Greece. Includes images of art and architecture, primary texts in Greek with English translation, a Greek-English lexicon, a world atlas, histories, articles and essays, and an extensive bibliography.

- Beazley Archive Extensible Database: Information about Athenian figure-decorated vases illustrated in publications available to the Ashmolean Library (Oxford University) and linked to the collections of seven European museums; includes bibliographic citations.
