1. Topic: Agenda review

Outcome: No changes

2. Topic: Collection Manager links to the catalog

There is a new feature of Blackwell's Collection Manager system. We've set it up with SFX so that there are links between records in Collection Manager and books in the catalog. It works in a rather unusual way. Rather than seeing an SFX button, when you are viewing a list of titles in Collection Manager, there is a link labeled "other resources". If you click on that you get the familiar SFX window and may be able to link across to the catalog. The link is to the USMAI as a whole, so even if only Towson has the title, you will be able to link across. Thus you will have to follow through and make sure that the link points to a College Park book. Also, the link is based on the ISBN, so if there are multiple formats (hardback and paperback have different ISBNs), you have to be careful to check all of the listings in Collection Manager.

Outcome: The collaborative leaders will update the collaborative members on this new feature. Jan will investigate how quickly purchase plan books link across.

3. Topic: Update on Leaders' Group work process review

Outcome: Determine next steps

4. Topic: Update on Project Muse renewal and other e-resource issues

  1. CLD has agreed to contribute $2,500 toward UM's Project Muse subscription. This will leave us responsible for the remaining $14,600 for our 2005 subscription. Other campuses are still deciding on their renewal options. Their decisions will not affect our price.

  2. Betty is working with Wiley and Springer/Kluwer/Brill to see if they will offer a consortial price for their journals.

  3. ExLibris is asking all member ARLs to identify their Top Ten databases for inclusion in Research Port cross-searching functionality. Based on this list, they will approach the vendors with the ammunition of client consensus. Those databases that are currently available for cross-search are signified in Research Port with the spyglass icon, not those listed under Cross Search. Lists of databases that are already in development for Research Port cross-search capabilities, as well as those have been identified for future development were distributed; additional copies will be emailed to the selectors.

Outcome: Betty will send an email asking selectors to review all three ists (current, in development, and proposed development), and provide Betty with additional requests by October 8th. CMT will review the results at the October 12th meeting to determine UM's Top Ten.

5. Topic: Update on move to e-only access

We are still waiting to hear back from SWETS on the journal list we sent to them. Once it is finalized, a new webpage detailing this phase of the initiative will be posted. additionally, we will find $1600 to preserve electronic access to Duke University Press journals (without print cancellations since no archiving is available). Some of the savings from e-only shifts will cover this.

Outcome: The group agreed that it was appropriate to use potential "savings" from moving titles e-only to allow retention of titles where there has been free-access in the past which cannot be retained without finding new money (e.g. the Duke University Press titles). This will only occur where publishers do not meet the previously developed criteria for moving the title e-only (e.g. where third party archiving is not available).

6. Topic: Announcements

  • Blackwell's weekly shipment arrived late this week and also arrived without many expected catalogging records. Acquisitions will be managing this situation and will inform collection managers when materials are ready for review (possibly not until next week).
