1. Topic: Agenda review

Outcome: No changes

2. Topic: Visit by Sue Koutsky re Mass Deacidification

Sue offered a summary of the process and of work on Libraries collections to date. For more information on the initiative and process, see http://www.lib.umd.edu/TSD/PRES/2Pmdeacid.html

Outcome: Sue will look into areas that the Library of Congress and Johns Hopkins are targeting for their initiatives. This item will be on a future agenda for further discussion of how to create a process for determining priorities.

3. Topic: ITO Survey Results

In the Summer of 2003, Sue Baughman conducted team surveys with Public Services, TSD, and CMT. This was the first time CMT participated, but the other teams have comparative data from earlier survey. The team results for CMT were distributed. Because CMT personnel have changed almost entirely since the survey, the results are difficult to interpret.

Outcome: Information sharing

4. Topic: Dictionary of National Biography

Oxford has a new edition of the Dictionary of National Bibliography that includes 60 volumes in print (one time payment) and the option for e-access as a subscription. The Ar-Hu collaborative would like to get this resource before the next round of Big Ticket review.
The main format and pricing options with funding possibilities are:

  • $11,000 one-time purchase for the print version, with 12 months online access included. This price is good through the end of November but that means Acquisitions needs the order by early November.

  • $1900 subscription for three user electronic access

Outcome: Betty will notify everyone once the trial has been set up. Collaboratives should consider their interest in the print collection and individual fund managers' interest in "chipping in". CMT will revisit the print purchase at the November 2nd meeting. CMT will also review the low priority general journal and general standing order titles to see if subscription funding (for only the e-access) could be painlessly generated by cancellations in those funds.

5. Topic: Announcements

  • Jan: Blackwell is having troubles with their new system. They anticipate resolving the issues that impact purchase plan shipments by next week.

  • Jim: Bibliothek Nationale has great released a full e-archive of a core physics journal that dates back 1780: Gallica: la bibliothèque numérique from Bibliotheque Nationale de France. http://gallica.bnf.fr/. He will send Betty the info, who will check into adding it in Research Port.

  • Selection of Top Ten Databases for ExLibris Cross-Search expansion. Betty to send pre-work out soon.
  • Mass Deacidification continued
