1. Topic: Agenda review

Outcome: No changes

2. Topic: MOSS issue(s) from AST
Guest: T. Wray

For a wide variety of historical reasons, many of the monographs at MOSS are non circulating and as such cannot be paged through Aleph creating significant access issues for this portion of our stored collections. The AST is interested in changing the status of monographs at MOSS to provide better service to patrons. CMT discussed the three options regarding the status: doing nothing to their status, individually handling each book as requested to evaluate its condition, or doing a mass update.

Outcome: CMT is in favor of a mass status change of non-circulating MOSS monographs to circulating. Karla will send out a more detailed announcement about the proposed change, and suggest that any concerns be raised by December 10th. [Subsequently it was verified that approximately 1,800 monographs would be affected]. Jan will discuss with ITD what the technical issues of doing an automatic status change are. Tanner will clarify the handling process for receiving non-circulating MOSS requests. Tanner will also explore the possible creation of some preservation-based criteria to be applied at the time of delivery for identifying items that are not in good enough condition to circulate. This item will return to the agenda on December 14th for review.

3. Topic: Springer/Kluwer/Brill consortial offer to USM

Springer/Kluwer/Brill has offered USM a consortial package for 2005 subscriptions (one year only) by which those titles subscribed to by one institution would be available to all campuses that participate in the consortial package. For UM, the offer has no financial benefit for FY05. UM,however, could gain access to additional subscriptions subscribed to by other participants, but without archival rights. Additionally, temporary content substitution would be allowed for titles with duplicate subscriptions the institutions. The proposed contract is one year only, at which point it is renegotiable by all parties. Responses from other USM institutions are due this week.

Outcome: For UMCP, participation is essentially risk-free and will be beneficial to other USM libraries. At the next meeting, Betty will report on backfile access for the journals and responses from the rest of the USM consortium.
