Roles: Facilitator: Betty; Notetaker: Jim

1. Topic: Agenda review

Outcome: We added Social Sciences Big Ticket list at end, time permitting.

2. Topic: Database renewals

Betty reported on the undercounting of Ebsco statistics and on her discussions with Elsevier about systematic downloads. She noted that corrected use statistics for Ebsco should be loaded by the end of this week. She presented statistics on turnaways for CMT-managed databases for FY05 through February, with notable figures of 262 for CAB abstracts, 85 for Education Abstracts, 122 for PapersFirst, 335 for ProceedingsFirst, and 60 for Biography Index. We discussed the coverage of Wilson databases versus Academic Search and Masterfile Premier.

Outcome: We decided to cancel Readers Guide because of great overlap with Academic Search Premier, $3085 price, and FY04 search figures of 4156 for Readers Guide versus 673,090 for ASP. The Social Sciences Collaborative will discuss at its March 9 meeting the possible cancellation of Social Sciences Abstracts. The Sci-Tech Collaborative will decide on General Science Abstracts, which has 83% overlap with ASP titles. We will postpone discussion of OCLC databases until April 4

3. Topic: Review of Big Ticket Candidates: Government Documents

Guest: Marianne Ryan
Marianne presented 4 Big Ticket candidates, in priority order: Historical Census, Business Analyst, NGA Maps, and Digital Sanborn Maps.

4. Topic: Review of Big Ticket Candidates: Arts and Humanities

We continued discussion of ARHU candidates (www.lib.umd.edu/CLMD/CMT/2005bigticket.html for all big ticket info). Susanna presented the remainder of the list: Index of Christian Art, North American Theatre Online, History E-book Project, and Nation Digital Archive.

5. Topic: Review of Big Ticket Candidates: Social Sciences

Travis presented the Social Sciences list: Communication & Mass Media Complete (CMMC), New York Times Historical, Black Thought and Culture, JStor Arts & Sciences Collections IV & Complement, and PsycEXTRA.

Outcome: PSYCBooks was removed from CMT's consideration, since it got only one Social Sciences vote. Betty will get statistics on use of the Washington Post Archive, and also find out if the one-time purchase of NYT would entail any potential ongoing costs.

6. Topic: Announcements

  • Karla reported that the March 9 PLCT meeting will discuss BNA review reduction in effort analysis.
  • Betty just got word that ISI has created a new citation index based on indexing of 200 journals, 1944 back to 1900, for a $40,000 one-time purchase. This item will not be included in the 2005 big ticket process.

7. Review meeting process and plan for next meeting:

  • Big Ticket: IRST and possibly Non-Print
  • Discuss voting on Big Ticket and review prioritization criteria. Vote sheets will go out before Spring Break to be due back by March 29 am.

Next meeting: Tuesday, March 15, 1:00-3:00 in McKeldin 7113 (note early time!)
