About Journal and E-Book Usage StatisticsWith the growth in electronic publishing, publishers are increasingly providing usage statistics to UMCP Libraries. Since 2001, the Libraries have compiled data for electronic journal usage. These statistics indicate full-text (html and pdf formats) access to articles only, not searching statistics. Increasingly, publishers are producing COUNTER compliant statistical data. For additional information on the Counter initiative, see COUNTER: Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources. In the Fall of 2004, the Libraries began gathering data of in-house usage data for both bound (current) and bound print journals. Journal usage data is helpful for Subject Selectors during a Serial Review for determining the value of individual subscriptions. The University of Maryland Libraries have access to three collections of electronic books from Netlibrary: Maryland Digital Library Consortial Subscriptions, MDL Consortial Subscriptions Tier II, and UMCP Subscriptions. Each spreadsheet contains data from each separate collection as well as summary data for for all subscriptions. Begining in FY07, all e-book usage statistics will be combined into a single spreadsheet. These statistics indicate access to the full text of chapters, not searching statistics. |
