Mission
Provide a forum for promoting consistency in bibliographic control across UM Libraries' special collections. Assure adherence to standards which will enable us to share and migrate data. Identify processing needs and priorities for special collections materials and make recommendations for staffing and funding.
Charge
- Evaluate the bibliographic control of special collections materials.
- Analyze DACS to include: compare UM practices to DACS; identify where UM does not conform; make recommendations on changes to UM's current practices; make recommendations on the extent of changes to be made to UM's existing EAD finding aids in ArchivesUM and MARC records.
- Identify projects for improving access points in online finding aids and MARC records.
- Evaluate best method for providing access to unprocessed collections of monographs, serials, manuscripts, etc. Evaluate alternative methods of providing access such as through ArchivesUM, MARC records, or by some other method such as by updating the current list.
- Propose and make recommendations regarding access methods to appropriate groups and teams within the Libraries.
- Set priorities with input from appropriate teams and monitor work.
- Determine, with input from Special Collections Collaborative teams, the needs of the Collaborative and set cataloging production quotas to meet these needs.
- Maintain a list of pending work and projects. Monitor work and assure that it meets the needs of the Collaborative.
- Report on a regular basis to the Special Collections Collaborative and other appropriate teams.
- Maintain a web presence.
- Coordinate work with other UM Libraries teams and share information with Collaborative members.
- Determine needs for counting and statistical reports.
