The University of Maryland Libraries contain special collections in various formats which document the history and culture of the state of Maryland. The collections support research by a wide range of scholars including undergraduates, graduates, faculty, and other researchers whose work relies on materials documenting Maryland's history and culture.

Over 1.5 million photographic images, dating roughly from 1906 to 1986. The
collection encompasses images of all aspects of the human experience - people,
places, and events from Baltimore to the world.
