Maryland History and Culture Team

Work Plan 2006

  1. Continue work developing a comprehensive collection policy for Maryland studies.
    • Ideally, each member of the team will write at least one more collection policy in a particular subject area in 2006. For existing policies, please see:
    • Guide Harmonization: Because many of the subject guides available mesh with subject areas identified in our collection policy, we will review our web sites to eliminate redundancy, as well as to provide key access points. This goal meshes with work the Digital Initiatives Team began in 2005 and will continue in 2006.
  2. Digital Repository
    • The team will meet with Digital Collections and Research to discuss options and methods for development of a repository for collecting electronic state documents; and for collecting digital objects that document the Maryland “underground scene.”
  3. Maryland Meeting
    • The team decided to invite 10-15 archivists/librarians/curators from Maryland repositories to a focus group that we would host here to discussing overall documentation strategies and collaboration, documenting Latino and Hispanic communities in Maryland , and collecting electronic State documents.
      • Topics for this meeting may also include:
        • collaborative collection building among institutions, and clarification of our collecting goals
        • proposal of an annual meeting between main collecting institutions to revisit collaborative collection building
        • creating a guide to Maryland repositories called “Documenting Maryland” that all institutions would agree to mount on their website.
  4. In addition, the team will tackle timely topics relating to Maryland studies on a pop-up basis
