SCOT Team Minutes, December 14, 2005 Present: Tom Connors, Kevin Hammett, Suzanne Linebaugh, Janna Robinson (facilitator), Allan Rough, Eiko Sakaguchi (notetaker)
1. SCOTT URL
Sakaguchi reported that the SCOTT homepage was uploaded at: http://www.lib.umd.edu/CLMD/SpecColl/ott/index.html She will update the website in January and asked the members to send documents to be put on the website to her.
2. SECT Meeting Report
Sakaguchi attended the Dec. 13th Staff Education Coordinating Team (SECT) meeting. She reported that there is currently no one representing the Division in the SECT, and the SECT would like a representative from the division. Sakaguchi said that it would be beneficial for SCOTT to send a representative because it will avoid the duplication of training efforts. All agreed that SCOTT will send a representative in turn. It was also decided that the SCOTT facilitator of the month will attend the SECT meeting of that month. The SCOTT meeting will be held after the SECT meeting. Venue: Broadcasting Conference Room between 2-3 pm, unless a change is made. Roles are on the SCOTT website. Jan. 11; Feb. 15; March 15; April 12; May 10; June 14.
4. NonPrint Library Tour and Special Collections Tour
Rough said that he will conduct a NonPrint Library tour for Special Collections staff on Jan. 18th between 9-10 a.m. Conners will send an invitation email to Special Collections staff as soon as he is ready. He will send a reminder close to the tour date. The group will discuss the Special Collections Tour for all library staff in the January SCOTT meeting. A possible day and time will be on a Friday between 10-11.30 a.m. The tour format will be same as our September practice tour.
5. Training Options for Special Collections Staff
The group discussed how we identify the Special Collections training needs and interests as well as the numbers of trainings in one year. Based on ARL training document (http://www.arl.org/collect/spcoll/SCTF.ED.pdf) suggested by Connors, the group identified following potential training needs and interests: Copyright and/or Digital/Media Asset management (by Ann Bowden) EAD (Encoding Archival Description) / Description Disaster preparedness (customize for Special Collection) Donor relations/ Fundraising/Grants (Jan, Marietta ) Moving Images (Film and video) Visual materials (architectural records, cartographic materials and still photos) Exhibits History of penmanship (manuscripts in general) Resources in the area (Field trip) Photographs and ?? Audiovisual workshop.
6. Next Meeting
Prework; by next meeting each member will come up with suggestions from the above list and rank the possible training ideas and discuss the levels of the training. Agenda items include Special Collections Tour for library staff; and Training needs for Special Collections Staff. Next meeting to be held at 2-3 on Jan. 11th at the Broadcasting Conference Room. |
