Circulation and Reserves

Engineering and Physical Sciences Library

Circulation

The Engineering & Physical Sciences Library follows the general circulation policies of the University of Maryland Libraries, with the following exceptions:

Bound and unbound journals generally do not circulate at EPSL. However, faculty, staff and graduate students may borrow these items for up to four hours (no overnight loans) after filling out a loan slip at the Circulation Desk. Please note that failure to return these materials on time is a disservice to other library users and may result in suspension of this privilege.

Reference materials do not circulate at EPSL. Reference Librarians only may issue a Special Permission slip which allows these items to circulate to graduate students or faculty for a short period of time, on a case-by-case basis.

UMCP student ID cards are not transferable. However, UMCP faculty members may loan their ID cards to family members, graduate assistants, etc., with the understanding that the faculty member is personally accountable for all materials borrowed on his/her card. If this ID is lost or stolen, the Libraries must be notified immediately.

Course Reserves

Upon request by the course instructor, books containing required readings are kept at the EPSL Circulation Desk and are available for two-hour loans during the semester. EPSL also allows instructors to place on reserve notebooks containing class notes, homework solutions, sample exams, online web-based notes, and other items.

EPSL course reserve materials are two hour loans (no overnight loans), although Circulation Staff may reduce the loan period during high-use periods. Valid UM identification (see requirements for general loans) must be presented to borrow any reserve items.
