Provides statistics on social and economic conditions in the United States. Comprised of data from the Census Bureau, other Federal agencies, and private organizations. Subect areas include population, vital statistics, health, education, law, geography, government, labor, agriculture, and business/trade/finance. Selected earlier editions (back to 1878) are also available.

 Vital Statistics System
The National Vital Statistics System is responsible for the Nation's official vital statistics. It contains statistics on births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and fetal deaths. NCHS shares the costs incurred by the States in providing vital statistics data for national use. NCHS also produces training and instructional material. Also includes the Linked Birth and Infant Death Data Set, National Maternal and Infant Health Survey, National Mortality Followback Survey, the National Survey of Family Growth, and the National Death Index.
