        Call for Publication Proposals
The Washington Art Library Resources Committee is seeking preliminary proposals for special publications relating to and/or documenting the art historical collections of Washington area libraries. Preference will be given to potential authors who are affiliated with one of the libraries of WALRC. Publications may be in print or non-print formats. All manuscripts will be subject to peer review. Proposals should take the following format:

          1. Need: Why is a new publication on this topic needed at this time?
          2. Purpose: How is the publication designed to meet the need? What are the primary and secondary purposes of the publication?
          3. New contribution: What new contribution does the publication offer? What are the main competing and related publications, and how does the publication go beyond them? Describe the publication's new contribution in considerable detail - this is a central issue. How is this book different, better, more complete?
          4. Audiences and uses: Who are the intended audiences and how will they be able to use the publication? Be specific and realistic. Distinguish between primary, secondary, and tertiary audiences. Identify specific professional associations that are audiences.
          5. Knowledge base: Describe the publication's knowledge base of research, theory, and/or literature review. Attach the author's vita or other biographical information that particularly conveys through background, education, research and publications the expertise and qualifications for undertaking the described writing project.
          6. Outline: Attach a detailed, chapter-by-chapter outline of the proposed contents of the publication.
          7. Manuscript length and special materials: How many pages (assuming 250 words per page) do you anticipate that the manuscript (not the publication) will be? Indicate approximate number of graphics (tables, figures, photographs, illustrations), appendices and bibliographies you estimate will be included.
          8. Timetable: What is your schedule for completing the manuscript?
          9. Sample chapters: Enclose with the publication proposal at least one sample chapter that is representative of your writing and organizational style. If more of the draft manuscript is available, then submit all of the manuscript that is available.
          10. Budget: Estimated costs as far as they are known.
