The Interlibrary Users Association (IUA) was established in 1964. From modest beginnings as a seven member library cooperative project for sharing periodical resources, the group has grown to a nonprofit organization consisting of approximately 40 libraries in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. Members represent special, federal, and academic libraries that allow mutual access to their collections for interlibrary lending and borrowing.
