The purpose of the Katherine Anne Porter Society is to assist and coordinate Katherine Anne Porter studies through the organization of the Society's general meetings and other special conferences; the publication of a newsletter; and the support of similar activities approved by the Society. Membership: Katherine Anne Porter Society annual dues are $10 a year. Checks made payable to KAP Society/UNLV Foundation should be mailed to Beth Alvarez, University of Maryland Libraries, College Park, MD 20742. The KAP Society has tax exempt status through the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Foundation, the fundraising arm of UNLV. Newsletters: The Newsletter of the Katherine Anne Porter Society, established in 1994, was published annually until 2006. Partial contents of the following issues are available online. Full issues are available from the editor. Volume 1--May 1994 KAP Studies: The Papers of Katherine Anne Porter are housed at the University of Maryland Libraries. The microfilm edition of the papers is now available, and a complete guide to the collection is online. In addition to Miss Porter's papers, a number of ancillary collections are also available. Also, the library houses the Katherine Anne Porter Room which contains a number of Miss Porter's belongings, photographs of Miss Porter and her friends and relatives, and her personal library. The Porter Room is open from 1:00-4:30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays during the academic year. Conferences: 2008 American Literature Association Conference in San Francisco The Katherine Anne Porter Society's session at the nineteenth annual American Literature Association conference, "Innocence and Experience in the Stories of Katherine Anne Porter," will be chaired by Jerry Findley of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. The papers to be presented include 1. "'fools of life, . . . fugitives from death' in Katherine Anne Porter's 'Holiday,'" Beth Alvarez, University of Maryland 2. "The Ethnographic Participant-Observer as Narrator: Ethics and Memory in Katherine Anne Porter," Kellie Warren, Tulane University 3. "'Magic': Porter Breaks the Spell of Her Publishing Commitments," Alexandra Subramanian, Independent Scholar The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency, 5 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, California, May 22-25, 2008.
