KAP Fiction Prize at University of Maryland

The winners of the annual graduate student poetry and fiction competitions sponsored by the Creative Writing Program in the English Department of the University of Maryland read from their works on May 7, 2003, in the McKeldin Library Special Events Room. The Katherine Anne Porter Fiction Prize went to Patchen Mortimer for "Rules for Beach Patrons." Rita Chin's "Summer Fever" received second prize, and, third, Patrick McKenna for "Driving Music." The judge for this year's competition was fiction writer Margot Livesey. The Porter Prize was established with an endowment from the Literary Trust of the Estate of Katherine Anne Porter, during the tenure of the late Isabel Bayley.
