The Daniel Brechner CollectionProcessed by: Jamie BushNovember 1998 The Daniel Brechner Collection contains 157 1/4 inch open reel and four audio cassette recordings. This collection of recordings consists largely of special news events in an around the Washington, D.C. area during the 1960s and 1970s. Most of these recordings are original field tapes from Mutual News. Many of the events took place in the National Press Club. Included are such events as Congressional subcommittee hearings, White House and other press conferences, political speeches and press dinners. The inclusive dates are from 1960 to 1980. Special hightlights of the collection include the "Valachi Hearings" on organized crimes; Vice President Hubert Humphrey's speeches at the National Press Club and campaign speeches as well as the resignation speech of President Richard M. Nixon. The Daniel Brechner Collection was donated to Non-Print Media Services at the University of Maryland, College Park in 1984 by Daniel Brechner.
