ARE YOU A VOX POPPER?
Are you a Vox Popper or do you know someone who was? From 1932 to 1948 Harry Grier, Jerry Belcher, Parks Johnson, Wally Butterworth, and Warren Hull interviewed thousands of men, women, and children from around the country and from all walks of life. As a reward for submitting to the interview participants were given gifts relating to their interests and needs. Luggage, clothing, wristwatches, cameras, radios, and home appliances were among the material items participants received. Some participants also received such emotional gift as phone calls to their families or all expenses paid trips home. The audience attending the broadcast also joined in the fun. Vox Pop could never escape it's quiz show origins and before each broadcast, members of the audience were invited on stage to compete in humorous party games for cash prizes.
To better understand Vox Pop and its impact on American society, the Library of American Broadcasting welcomes any information about the show you might have. Perhaps you were interviewed on the show or maybe you were one of the hundreds of thousands of people who attended a Vox Pop broadcast.
