Web Sites
The Internet has made finding lesson plans and other resources to support curriculum very easy--the problem is the overwhelming number of sites available and getting to the best ones. The following are some suggestions for places to begin.
General Education Metasites
Subject-Oriented Sites
- ArtsEdNet
The Getty Museum has taken the lead in producing art education materials for K-12 students. This site provides content and links to other appropriate sites on the Internet.
- Art Teacher Connection
This focuses on art education resources, images, lessons, and helpful hints on how to integrate computer technology into a visual arts program.
- Edsitement: the Best of the Humanities of the Web
Sponsored the National Endowment for the Humanities, this site contains links to humanities resources, including historical resources, on the Web. It also contains a large number of lesson plans.
- Socialstudies.org
This is the Web site of the National Council for the Social Studies, an "umbrella organization for elementary, secondary, and college teachers of history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law-related education. Click on "Your Classroom" to find lesson plans and suggested trade books. Portions of the site are accessible only to NCSS members.

Searching for Additional Web Sites
- Google
Try searching by subject and add "lesson plans". You can also add an educational level, e.g. mathematics and "lesson plans" and "middle school".
- Yahoo
Yahoo also links to many resources for teachers. Search "lesson plans" or, you may search more spefically by subject, e.g. "science lesson plans" or by grade level, e.g. "high school lesson plans."
- Citation Machine
- A quick and easy way to put your citations in the proper format.
- The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
This is a style manual for manuscript preparation that is used by scholars both in and outside
of the field of psychology. Though the Manual is not available electronically, the
"APA Style Resources" page on Psych Web provides links to a number of guides and Web pages that provide writing tips and suggestions for its application.
At McKeldin Library, the print APA manual is available in the stacks (call number: BF76.7.P83 1994) and at the Information/Research Services Desk.
Duke University Libraries has created a webpage titled "Assembling a List of Works Cited in Your Paper". This site provides quick and easy directions for creating citations for articles and books. This tool shows each citation using a variety of style guides, including the APA Publication Manual.
