Education Graduate Student Orientation

Web Page created by Karen Patterson, UM Libraries

This page has been designed for new graduate students in the College of Education, with the intent of providing quick access to information about library services and resources. While much of the information on this page may be found on the UM Libraries' home page, it is consolidated here to provide one-stop-shopping to the information most pertinent to you. Your comments and suggestions for additions to this page are welcome. Send them to Karen Patterson kpatter@umd.edu.

General Information

When you are ready, gather a few items and bring them with you:

  • Student ID--. you need it to borrow books from the Libraries.
  • A 3½" floppy disk or USB flash drive. You can download article citations, abstracts and text from the Libraries' electronic databases.
  • Dollar bills--you may need them to add money to your Terrapin Express account for printing and copying.

Electronic Resources

  • Databases
There are numerous databases in education and related areas that provide access to journal articles, conference papers, dissertations, tests and measurements, books and book chapters, and other types of resources. Begin with the subject list of Education Databases. Research Port offers a selection by subject of many other databases that might be useful.
  • Electronic Journals
The Libraries subscribe to many electronic journals, and hundreds of others are available via our databases. The e-journals can be found in the E- Journals section of Research Port.
