Printing & Photocopying

  • Photocopying Information
    UM Libraries charge 10 cents a page to make copies using photocopy machines or computers. You can use your student ID card as your copy card and either use Terrapin Express or add money to your card at Copy Card ATM machines located in each of the seven libraries on campus. Copy Card ATM machines accept $1, $5, $10, or $20 bills...but no coins.

    General Political Science Databases

  • Worldwide Political Science Abstracts
    Provides references and abstracts from public affairs magazines, major newspapers, professional journals, and books devoted to politics and political analyis from 1975 to the present. Contains the merged backfiles of Political Science Abstracts for 1975-2000, and ABC POL SCI for 1984-2000.

  • International Political Science Abstracts
    Indexes and abstracts from international periodicals, 1989 to the present.

  • PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service) International
    Indexes a wide variety of journal articles, research reports, and government documents in the social sciences and public affairs fields. Indexing from 1972 with abstracts from 1985 to the present.

  • PAIS Archive
    The PAIS Archive database comprises a retrospective conversion of the PAIS Annual Cumulated Bulletin, Volumes 1-62, published 1915-1976. At completion of this conversion, the PAIS Archive contains over 1.23 million records. The PAIS Archive database contains references to monographs, periodical articles, notes and announcements, and analytics. The original historical subject headings have been retained in the file.

    Access to Congressional documents from 1789 to the present, with much of the material from the 1980's forward available full-text. Also includes legislative histories, laws, regulations, and information about Congress, as well as full-text access to the U.S. Congressional Serial Set from 1789-1969. For access to materials not available full-text online, contact the Government Documents and Maps on the fourth floor of McKeldin Library.

  • CQ Researcher
    Full-text coverage of the CQ (Congressional Quarterly) Researcher publication from 1992 to the present. Unique database that selects specific timely topics and presents comprehensive information. This information includes history and background information about the topic, a detailed report of the current situation, relevant pro & con arguments, bibliographies, and contact information.

  • CQ Weekly
    Weekly legislative news and analysis, full text from 1983 to the present.

  • CQ's Politics in America
    Profiles of all the current members of the U.S. Congress. Information includes biographical data, committee assignments, election results, CQ Key Votes, interest group ratings, CQ Vote Studies, and contact information; campaign finance, partisan caucuses, standing committees; detailed descriptions of each member's congressional district as drawn after the 2000 census, including updated maps and voting trends; and the vote for president in each of the House districts.

    Organized by 22 key public affairs subject headings - like Environment, Health, International Affairs, National Security, and the U.S. Congress & Politics, plus a "Hot Topics" section - the CQ Public Affairs Collection features in-depth reporting on vital issues, statistical and historical analyses, historic documents and primary source materials, as well as a directory of key government, nonprofit, and private organizations in each of the major policy areas.

  • CQ Voting and Elections Collection

  • Digital National Security Archive

    You can download tables in Excel or CSV, or download entire groups of tables as a zip file.   • Roper iPoll
    This databank is a comprehensive, up-to-date source for questions asked on U.S. nationwide public opinion surveys since 1935. It provides question wordings, response percentages, and full survey-level citations. In order to start using iPOLL, click "iPOLL Login" and complete the "iPOLL New User Registration" page on the website.

  • Gallup Brain
    Searchable database of Gallup Poll questions and responses back to 1935, plus current Gallup Poll News Service articles and replicas of news stories and press releases linked to the survey.

  • NARA: Access to Archival Databases (AAD) System
    The AAD System provides online access to material from more than 30 series of electronic records at the National Archives, including biographical, geographical, and organizational records.

  • Foreign Affairs Full Access
    Full digital archives of Foreign Affairs back to 1973.

  • ABSEES: American Bibliography of Slavic & East European Studies
    Compiled continuously since 1956 under the auspices of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS), ABSEES covers North American (U.S. and Canadian) scholarship on East-Central Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet Union. It contains bibliographic records for journal articles, books, book chapters, book reviews, dissertations, online resources, and selected government publications.

  • BAS: Bibliography of Asian Studies Online
    Full content of the whole twenty years of the annual printed Bibliography of Asian Studies (from 1971-1991), plus citations for all articles from 1992 onward in over 100 journals in Asian studies, as well as numerous other citations from recent years.

  • EBSEES: European Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies

    Information about articles from 3000 general, humanities, social science, and science periodicals, including over 1700 peer-reviewed journals. About one-third of the articles are available fulltext.

  • Ingenta
    Multidisciplinary index to over 26,000 periodicals. Full-text is available for those journals to which the Libraries subscribe.

  • Periodical Contents Index Fulltext
    Information on articles published in more than 2,000 humanities and social sciences periodicals, from as early as the eighteenth century to the early 1990s.

  • Social Sciences Citation Index
    Indexes articles written from 1956 to the present. Also ability to conduct a "cited reference search" by author or work. Select "Web of Science" from the pull-down menu at the top of the page.

    1969- Current. Provides citations and abstracts for articles from more than 400 journals, books, and the Cambridge University Press Abstracts of Working Papers in Economics (AWPE).

  • Source OECD
    The online library of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Comprises 20 book collections by theme, containing all OECD monographs and reports, most OECD periodicals, and the OECD statistical databases. From 1998 to the present.

  • World Development Indicators
    Provides direct access to more than 550 development indicators, with time series for 208 countries and 18 country groups from 1960, where data are available. Data export options in Excel or ASCII.

  • NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) Working Papers Online

  • ABI/Inform
    1996-present; 1979-1995 backfile. Covers over 1000 US and international business journals and magazines. Research topics include management, advertising, marketing, economics, finance, taxation, and more.

  • Business Source Premier
    Provides full text for nearly 1,400 scholarly business journals covering management, economics, finance, accounting, international business and much more.

  • EIU Country Finance
    A comprehensive full-text database that covers the world's main financial systems, including banking and associated services, government policies and regulations for 47 countries.

  • Euromonitor Global Market Database
    Includes demographic, social, and financial and trade statistics.

  • Oxford Encyclopedia of Economic History
    Fully searchable text of the encyclopedia, including over 900 articles from leading scholars with extensive bibliographies. Covers all time periods of human history and includes strong coverage of individual countries, regions, industries and economic concepts.

  • United Nations Treaty Collection Online
    "Treaty reference information made available for the United Nations Treaty Series (UNTS) at this site corresponds to treaties and subsequent actions registered up to April 1998. The complete text of treaties corresponds to treaties and subsequent actions registered approximately up to February 1998. Currently, the UNTS is being expanded at the rate of over 100 new volumes per year."   • COMAR: Code of Maryland Regulations
    Maryland State agency regulations are compiled in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). COMAR contains 33 Titles, with each Title usually corresponding to a department or agency. Each regulation is assigned a unique four-part codification number. For example, 09.12.01.02, represents Title 09, Subtitle 12, Chapter 01, and Regulation 02.

  • DOSE: Dictionary of Substances and their Effects Database
    Data for the accurate assessment of the risks associated with the use of over 4, 100 chemicals. Data include physical properties, occupational exposure limits, mammalian and avian toxicity, genotoxicity, ecotoxicity, environmental fate, plus regulatory requirements including risk and safety.

  • Ecology Abstracts
    Index to current ecology research across a wide range of disciplines, reflecting recent advances in light of growing evidence regarding global environmental change and destruction. Ecology Abstracts focuses on how organisms of all kinds - microbes, plants, and animals - interact with their environments and with other organisms. Included are relevant papers on evolutionary biology, economics, and systems analysis as they relate to ecosystems or the environment. 1982 to the present.

  • Environment and Energy (E&E) Daily
    Information for people who track environmental and energy action in Congress. Reporters follow legislative action and interview members of Congress, senators, and their staffs, as well as industry lobbyists, environmental advocates, lawyers, key staffers at the White House, and in federal agencies. Published daily except during extended Congressional recesses. Include access to E&E News PM and E&E TV News. 1996 to the present.

  • Greenwire
    Comprehensive, daily coverage of environmental and energy politics and policy, includes summaries of important energy and environmental policy coverage from hundreds of print, broadcast and online sources, including editorials. Greenwire's archive of key documents provides direct links to reports, analyses, memos, court cases and over 30,000 Greenwire stories. Includes new video and transcripts. 1996 to the present.

  • Land Letter: The Natural Resources Weekly Report
    A Washington, D.C.-based weekly newsletter on natural resource policy issues. 1996 to the present.

  • Nature Journals
    Full-text access to Nature and other Nature Publishing Group journals and reviews. To access these titles from off campus, go through Research Port. Click on the e-journal link.

  • NTIS
    NTIS is the central source for the sale of unclassified and publicly available information from federal sources. Indexes and abstracts technical research reports, journal articles, data files, computer programs and audio-visual products. Information is also available from some foreign governments. Additionally, NTIS includes some technical reports from international agencies such as NATO and AGARD. 1964 - current. Updated biweekly. The Technical Reports Center, located in the basement of the Engineering & Physical Sciences Library, has many of the reports listed in the NTIS database.

    Worldwide technical literature related to marine & brackish-water environments. 1981 to the present..

  • Pollution Abstracts
    Information on scientific research and government policies. 1981 to the present. Monthly updates.

  • TOXLINE
    Covers all areas of toxicology Including chemicals and pharmaceuticals, pesticides, environmetal pollutants, mutagens & teratogens. Rolling 5-year database, consists of records from the last 5 years plus current year
  • Water Resources Abstracts
    Provides summaries of the world's technical and scientific literature on water-related topics covering the characteristics, conservation, control, pollution, treatment, use and management of water resources. Abstracts are drawn from journals, books, conference proceedings, and technical reports in the physical and life sciences, as well as from engineering, legal and government publications.

  • Criminal Justice Periodicals

    Provides abstracts and indexing using Medical Subject Headings (MESH) for about 4,600 biomedical journals published in the U.S. and 70 foreign countries. 1966 to the present.

FINDING ARTICLES THAT *ARE NOT* FULL TEXT

Did you search a database and found only the citation to an article? Search the catalog to determine if the library has the journal or magazine and volume you need. A sample citation:

Tiersky, Ronald. " Mitterand's Legacies." Foreign Affairs. 74 (January/February 1995): 112-21.
  1. Start at the Libraries’ home page. Click on Catalog then click on JOURNALS.
  2. Do a title beginning with... search on the name of the journal. e.g. Foreign Affairs
  3. Your search will produce an Alphabetical list of results screen. If the title you need is listed, click on its name.

  4. On the Full View of Record screen, write down the library location (e.g. McKeldin Library Periodical Stacks) and the call number (e.g. HF5801.J6). Click on Availability to determine if the library has the volume you need. .

  5. If the journal is in McKeldin Library, examine the floor plan to determine where to go to. If located elsewhere, review the map of library locations.

Electronic Journals

    Beginning in 2004, UM theses and disserations are published electronically in this online collection.

  • Digital Dissertations
    Covers a complete range of dissertations and theses in all disciplines, from participating institutions. Dates covered: 1861- (Indexing); 1980- (Abstracting Dissertations); 1988- (Abstracting Theses). Full text of UM dissertations and theses are available from 1997-. In addition, 24 page previews of dissertations and theses from other institutions are available from 1997-.

  • Foreign Doctoral Dissertations Database
    CRL has more than 750,000 uncataloged foreign doctoral dissertations, of which approximately 20,000 are included in this database.Not finding a match does not mean CRL does not hold the dissertation, soif you do not find the title you seek here, it is recommended that the CRL catalog also be searched. If the title does not appear in the database or catalog, contact CRL directly to inquire if it is held. To obtain a copy of a dissertation, fill out a request with the UM Interlibrary Loan Office.
