is to provide source materials for the study of the social history of women, particularly in the
18th century, which is not so well-documented as the 19th century. Included are prescriptive
literature giving the qualities of an ideal woman; practical manuals; advice literature;
literary journals; tattlers, giving society news and gossip; fashion journals; general
instructional journals; and political literature.
