Scholarly Journal Articles and Related Publications

When accessing subscription databases from off-campus, you will have to login using your last name and the 14-digit number on the back of your student i.d. card.

  • Historical Abstracts
    Information about articles, books, and dissertations on world history (excluding the U.S. and Canada), with some links to complete articles. To locate an item, click on the "find it" button.

  • PAIS International
    The PAIS International database contains references to more than 460,000 journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference reports, publications of international agencies, microfiche, Internet material, and more. Newspapers and newsletters are not indexed. Coverage is international and multidisciplinary on a wide range of public affairs topics, including: the environment, business, education, government, health, international relations, law & legislation, criminal justice, political science, social issues, and public administration.

  • Worldwide Political Science Abstracts
    Provides references and abstracts from public affairs magazines, major newspapers, professional journals, and books devoted to politics and political analyis from 1975 to the present. Contains the merged backfiles of Political Science Abstracts for 1975-2000, and ABC POL SCI for 1984-2000.

  • International Political Science Abstracts
    This database produced by the International Political Science Association, includes current indexing and abstracts of the world's leading journals in political science. It contains over 110,000 records from nearly 900 journals published from 1989 to the present. Approximately 8,000 new records are added to the database every year.

  • ABSEES: American Bibliography of Slavic & East European Studies
    Compiled continuously since 1956 under the auspices of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS), ABSEES covers North American (U.S. and Canadian) scholarship on East-Central Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet Union. It contains bibliographic records for journal articles, books, book chapters, book reviews, dissertations, online resources, and selected government publications.

  • RAMBI Articles on Jewish Study
    Bibliography of articles in the various fields of Jewish studies and in the study of Eretz Israel. Covers a wide range of academic areas in social sciences and humanities.

  • Women's Studies International
    Compiled from ten women's studies databases, primarily an index of the feminist press from 1972 to the present.

  • Arts & Humanities Abstracts
    An index, to articles published in over 1,100 arts and humanities journals and selected articles from related science and social science journals. 1980 to the present.

Periodicals and Newspapers

  • PAIS Archive
    The PAIS Archive database comprises a retrospective conversion of the PAIS Annual Cumulated Bulletin, Volumes 1-62, published 1915-1976. At completion of this conversion, the PAIS Archive contains over 1.23 million records. The PAIS Archive database contains references to monographs, periodical articles, notes and announcements, and analytics. The original historical subject headings have been retained in the file.

  • Periodicals Index Online
    Information about articles published in more than 3,000 humanities and social sciences periodicals, from as early as the eighteenth century to the 1990s, with some links to complete articles. Once you have identified an article, check the Libraries' catalog to see if the Libraries own the periodical in which it appears. Articles described in the database not available in the University of Maryland Libraries can generally be ordered through interlibrary loan.

  • New York Times Historical: 1851-2001
    O ffers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue.

    Search this database to identify U.S. legislative information from 1789 to the present. Includes bills, laws & resolutions, Congressional debate, Congressional hearings, and reports made to Congress by executive agencies and Congressional committees. Most reports are available full-text online. Full-text of all publications not online can be found in the Government Documents collection.

    The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) is a United States government agency which monitors and translates current news and commentary from foreign political speeches, radio and television broadcasts, news agency transmissions, newspapers, and periodicals. The material is wide-reaching with an emphasis on political, socioeconomic, scientific, technical, and environmental information.
