19th Century American Literature and History.

Description

This collection includes important American rare books of the nineteenth century. Although major emphasis is placed on literary works, other types of material related to nineteenth-century culture are also reproduced in the collection. The principal regions represented are the Ohio Valley, the South, and the trans-Mississippi West.

The microcards are arranged alphabetically by author or title in the microcard cabinets in the Periodicals/Microforms Room. The microfiche are filed by call number in the microfiche cabinets.

This is a continuing series. Each item is cataloged individually. Among the periodical titles in this collection are:

The Continent: 1882-1884. 6 v.: an illustrated weekly magazine edited by Albert W. Tourgee.
The Prince Society. 1865-1920. 36 v.: the publication of a Boston society which was organized in 1858 and which published source material about early American history, especially of New England.
Southern Literary Messenger. 1834-1864. 38 v.: the leading belletristic journal of the old South for three decades.
