Description

The American Statistics Index is master guide and index to all the statistical publications of the U.S. Government. The ASI Microfiche Library in McKeldin Library includes all items indexed by ASI, which are not on deposit in the Government Documents Room. The ASI Retrospective Edition includes Government statistical publications issued between 1960 and 1973. Annual supplements have been issued since 1974.

The microfiche collection is arranged by year and then by accession number. Each document receives a unique accession number which identifies the publication. To retrieve the microfiche from the Government Documents Room, one needs both the year of the index that was used and the accession number (2108-4.3).

Each edition of the American Statistics Index is divided into two volumes: Abstracts and Indexes. The Index section contains comprehensive subject and name, category, title, and report number indexes, with each reference keyed to the abstract's accession number. The Abstract section contains the description and format of each publication organized by the ASI accession number.

McKeldin Library is a Depository Library for U,S. Government Documents. The ASI Microfiche Collection in McKeldin consists of only those documents which are non-depository items. In the Abstract section those documents without a "bullet" (.) in front of the item number are available on microfiche. Those items with a "bullet" are depository items and are available through the Government Documents Room on the second floor of McKeldin Library.
