DescriptionThis collection contains microfiche editions of rare botanical books and serials.
Monograph microfiche are filed under the collective call number: M-fiche QK 45 .I5, then by the number of each fiche. Serial microfiche are filed under individual call numbers
Library holdings are highlighted in the Inter Documentation Company index listed above. As of 7/87, this highlighted list does not; yet reflect all of our holdings. In the index, order numbers incorporate fiche numbers, so that, for example, in order number B-7529/2, the fiche number is 7529. The individual monographs are catalogued and can be found under author(s), title, and subject in the McKeldin union card catalogue. As of this writing (7/87) this material is not yet on GEAC. The individual serial titles in the microfiche collection can be found on the UMCP serials list. Another source to find out more detailed information on the individual monographs and serials in the microfiche collection is Stafleu and Cowan listed above. This bibliographic reference work, as yet not completed (we have A-STE), is arranged by main entry (mostly by author). By looking up a desired work, one can find the Inter Documentation Company (IDC) number in the section labelled Ref. under the full citation. The absence of an IDC number denotes that the document is not in our microfiche collection. This IDC number corresponds to the microfiche number by which our microfiche collection is arranged. One can also find the following information about the author and his/her work: 1) Proposed form of the citation; 2) Birth/death dates of the author; 3) Abbreviation ofshort-title for use in taxonomic publications; 4) Book number assigned by Stafleu and Cowan; 5) Reference in Index Herbariorum, a standard source; 6) References to the individual work in other standard sources for botanical literature; 7) Journal articles or books about the author and his/her works; 8) Generic and journal names based on names of the author; 9) The library(ies) where Stafleu and Cowan examined the work; and 10) Pagination of parts(if the publication was issued in parts) and their dates of publication.
