The Knoedler Library of Art Exhibition Catalogues on Microfiche
Description5,206 exhibition and Salon catalogs are in seven subject groups including:
Eventually each exhibition catalog will be cataloged individually. Until that time, however, catalogs are together as the Knoedler Library collection and grouped within the seven subjects listed above. Within each group, they are arranged alphabetically by country and city, then alphabetically by Salon, gallery or museum. Within the museum listings, the catalogs are chronological. Temporary cards are filed by title of exhibition in the Art Library Author-Title card catalog.
In 1846 Michael Knoedler established his business in New York. Subsequently M. Knoedler & Co. established branches in New York, London and Paris, each with its own substantial art reference library. It is the exhibition catalogs from these libraries from which selections have been made for this collection. A Subject Index to the Knoedler Library of Sales and Art Exhibition Catalogues on Microfiche is being prepared by the Arts Library of the University of California at Santa Barbara. It will be published on COM microfiche providing full subject access to all the catalogs on microfiche.
Index/GuidePrinted handlist of seven subject groups (e.g., Salons and Annual Exhibitions, European and American Art 1400-1775, etc.) lists catalogs in each group by country, city, then chronologically by Salon, gallery or museum. These lists are in the Indexes binder in the Microforms Room. | ||
