Paquin/Worth Fashion Drawings, 1865-1956

Held In: McKeldin Library
Location Code & Call Number: McK-Per M-Fiche TT505 .W6P25 1982

Scope:

The 5,000 drawings illustrated in color in this set are a sampling of the Victoria and Albert Museum's unique collection of 23,000 original drawings from the fashion houses of Paquin and Worth from 1865 until 1956.

Arrangement:

The drawings are arranged chronologically with legible date frames in the fiche grids to mark the start of each year. In the upper right corner of each fiche there is also a label indicating which of the two design houses is being covered and the years.

The Victoria and Albert Museum holds a unique collection of 23,000 original drawings by the houses of Worth and Paquin from 1865-1956. Worth established his salon in Paris in 1858 and Paquin followed in 1892, between them setting the foundations of the fashion world as we know it. During the twentieth century they represented the mainstream of fashion design and their importance has long been acknowledged.

This set of 60 color microfiche presents 5,000 designs that were selected and photographed to cover the seasonal collections and to reflect the great attention to detail and to cessories depicted in the drawings.

A fraction of the illustrations include inscriptions indicating the designer's title of the costume. There are no indications of the materials or any other details of the physical quantities of the costume illustrated.
