Paul, Trench, Trubner and Co., Publishers, London. The Archives of Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner and Henry S. King, 1853-1912. 27 Reels.

Location: McKeldin Library
Call Number: Microfilm Z232.P36.P36P3

Description

This collection contains the production ledgers, account books and contracts of four separate publishers who merged during the period indicated (1853-1912).

At the beginning of the first reel of microfilm, there is an introduction to the archives which gives a detailed description of the interest of each firm along with an explanation of the contents of the various runs of ledgers.

The Index should be consulted for information about the arrangement of the reel contents.

The papers of these firms reveal the degree to which they felt obliged to publish popular materials. The subject interests of the several firms follow:

Trench and Co.: theological works
Kegan Paul: scientific books of popular appeal
Trubner: oriental subjects
King: poetry and literature

This collection is part of the microfilm series British Publishers' Archives, Series 1. See the entry in this Guide for Cambridge University Press for a list of other publishers included in the series.
