Scope:
This collectin contains records of contracts (1850-1898/9), publication books, wages books, sales extracts and other miscellaneous records which concern the history of the firm.
Arrangement:
The material is arranged chronologically (1853-c.1878), then alphabetically (A-H, I-Q) within time periods.
Bibliographic information for the entire collection appears at the beginning of several reels, starting with reel two.
In general, a name index with information about contents appears at the beginning of each volume. (N.B. Volumes may begin in the middle of the reel sequence.) The following exception has been noted: Indexes for Contracts (1850-1878), vol. 1, A-H and Contracts (1877-1898/9), Vol. 1, A-K are missing.
Notes:
Many of the volumes published by Routledge were among the most influential books of the Victorian age.
Publication books supply details of print orders, advertising, binding and paper costs for each book.
