Description

The Royal Library at Windsor Castle contains one of the finest collections of Old Master Drawings, including the largest group of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci. The most important of the 30,000 drawings I the collection have been cataloged in a series of volumes published by Phaidon Press. The drawings on microfilm follow the numerical order of the published catalogs. Every work in the catalogs has been reproduced, in addition to many others.

Drawings are divided according to the following subjects: Bolognese; Canaletto; Carracci; Castiglione & Stefano; Domenichino; Early Italian; English; Fontana; French; German & Supplements; Holbein; Leonardo; Roman; Sandby; and Venetian.

The following source provides more detailed information about the contents of each microfilm reel in the collection:

No separate index. A bibliography appears in the Index Binder in the Microforms Room showing appropriate catalogs of the Royal Collection which may be used together with the microfilm to give the complete catalog information. Call numbers are indicated.
