Description

The collection includes material about sexuality as it was treated in the writings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Titles span many disciplines including medicine, biology, anthropology, law, classics, literature and art. Among the books filmed are social histories, guides to cities, dictionaries, art books and romances. Topics include divorce, rape, venereal disease, reproduction, incest, homosexuality and eroticism.

Materials are divided on the film into the following categories:

I. Sexual behaviour and Attitudes Reels 1-14
II. Sex. Law and Medicine Reels 15-24
III. Sex and Literature Reels 25-106
IV. Sex and the Humanities Reels 107-120

In each section the items are arranged alphabetically by main entry.

The quide (HQ 60.S482) makes no distinction among the cateories listed above. It is arranged rather in two sections:

(1) Main-entry Index: This section is arranged alphabetically by author or title. Reel number and item location are supplied in italics at the end of each entry.
(2) Title listing; This section is arranges alphabetically by title. Reel number and item location are included in each entry.
