Description This collection contains primarily the outgoing correspondence of William Swan Sonnenschein which deals with major policy decisions, general interests and agreements with authors with whom the firm did business.
The fifty-one letter books are arranged in chronological order, ending with two miscellaneous volumes. At the beginning of the first reel of microfilm, there is a detailed description of the contents and arrangement of the letter books. The Index lists in alphabetical order the recipients of letters from Sonnenschein and the location of their correspondence on the film.
This firm published many of the most important books of the nineteenth century about social and political thought. Among its publications are first English editions of Freud, George Bernard Shaw's early writings and several books by Karl Marx.
