Description
As a rule, the information gathered in each successive census is progressively more detailed, Early schedules show only the names of the heads of failies. From 1850 on, all members of a household are named.
For each census the reels are arranged by county and then are in roughtly alphabetical order.
The 1890 census is lacking.
The indexes allow for determination of county of residence even if only a personal name is known. Indexes for later schedules are expected. Lists of counties with reel numbers for each census are available at the Reference Desk in the Reference Assistance Manual.
