Location: Art Library
Call Number: Microfiche N1160.W35

Description

Every painting and virtually every piece of decorative art in the Wallace Collection is reproduced, many with detailed illustrations. Subject areas include paintings, furniture, ceramics, arms and armour, sculpture, and decorative arts. Each fiche contains 60 monochrome captioned photographs.

Photographs are arranged in numerical sequence, by category, with items in the main collection grouped together. Paintings are in alphabetical order by artist.

The Wallace Collection was acquired by the 4th Marquess of Hertford, a wealthy 19th century English nobleman living in Paris. Its strengths are in the areas of French 18th century art, as well as 16th and 17th century Old Master paintings and English paintings of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The collection has an impressive selection from the decorative arts, as well.
