C. Scott Fletcher
1904-1991
C. Scott Fletcher began his work
in the field of non-commercial educational
television when he joined the Ford
Foundation in 1951
and became president of the Fund
for Adult Education. During his ten years with the Fund,
Fletcher helped
establish and garner support for educational television (ETV) stations
across the country. In 1964,
Fletcher, as a consultant to the Educational
Television Stations division of NAEB,
convened a national meeting on long-range financing. This meeting
saw the formation of the Carnegie
Commission on Educational Television which authored the landmark
study Public
Television: A Program for Action. Fletcher served as liaison
officer
between the ETS and NAEB from 1967
to 1971 when he then retired for the second time.
C. Scott Fletcher died on March 17, 1991
