Lyle M. Nelson
1918-1997
Lyle M. Nelson was born February 28, 1918. In 1953, he became the first employee of the National Educational Television and Radio Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Other accomplishments include serving as executive director of the 1965 Whtie House Conference on Education, creating the Stanford fellowship program in 1966 and serving as its director from 1969 to 1965. He was also active in establishing San Francisco station KQED. In 1975, Nelson collaborated with Wilbur Schramm on the first independent evaluation of public television finaching, sponsored by the Aspen Program on Communications and Society. In addition, he co-authored with Schramm the book Bold Experiment: The Story of Educational Television in Samoa.
Lyle M. Nelson died September 5, 1997.
