Quayle started his career in public broadcasting at Utah State University, where, as an undergraduate, he helped put Utah's first educational radio station on the air. He then spent a period as Program Manager of WOSU radio at Ohio State, moved on to Boston as Manager of WGBH-FM and as one of the founders of the Eastern Educational Radio Network, was with NETRC for a time, and spent five years as Executive Director of the Eastern Educational Television Network.
