Elizabeth L. Young

Public Radio Oral History Project October 10, 1978 From 1966 to 1968, Elizabeth L. Young was Program Manager for WAMU-FM, the University's Radio Station, and an Instructor at the University's Institute for Life Time Learning. While in Washington, she also served as Secretary for the Eastern Educational Network in 1967, helping to make it into an active association for tape exchange. In 1969, she worked at radio station WRVR as the Producer of Public Affairs and Cultural Programs and at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) as the Assistant to Al Hulsen, Director of Radio Activities. In her work at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, she was involved in the creation of National Public Radio (NPR). At the time of this interview, Young was Director of the Telecommunications Center of The Ohio State University In this interview, Young talks about the experiences outlined above. She presents a "candid and colorful picture of the people and the events involved in formulating Public Radio as it exists today.
