- Founded as the Association of Public Broadcasting (APB): October 1979
to assist educational, noncommercial broadcast stations:
- initiates and conducts research programs
- promotes information about public telecommunications to the general public
- does not produce programs or operate facilities
- Voted to adopt National Association of Public Television Stations (NAPTS)
as a trade name: May 1980
- NAPTS became America's Association of Public Television, Inc. (APTV): 1991
