Nonprint Home > About Us About Us
Nonprint Media Services Library is the central audiovisual research facility for the University of Maryland Libraries and the campus. In the summer of 2005, Nonprint Media Services moved to the current location on the ground floor of Hornbake Library, under the plaza. Our new facilities include individual carrels, small group rooms, our Dial Access reserve video playback system, and satellite downlinking ability. Take a moment to read the article recently published in Outlook to learn more about our new home. A Brief HistoryThe Nonprint Media Services Library was one of the first of its kind at any research institution. Since it first opened in 1973, it has been at the forefront of technological advances for university libraries, and a model for media libraries around the globe. More than thirty years later, we are proud to dedicate this new space housing the most current technologies for audio and visual materials. We now provide access to information in most film and video formats, including more than 500 hours of video-on-demand programming to the campus through the Films@UM digital research collection. Currently, equipment is available on-site for playback of many audiovisual formats. Also, Nonprint Media Services Library provides collections and services to support undergraduate, graduate, and research programs for all disciplines. Audiovisual equipment is available for loan to UM College Park and UMUC faculty, staff and students. Faculty may place materials from the Nonprint collection or legally acquired personal materials on reserve for their classes for listening or viewing assignments. Faculty, staff, and students use audiovisual programs in Nonprint Media Services by presenting their current UM identification. Materials also may be borrowed for classroom use and other teaching purposes. Phone: 301-405-9236FAX: 301-314-9419 Email: nonprint@umd.edu Directions: Directions to Hornbake Library | ||
