Artur BalsamArtur Balsam was born in Warsaw, Poland on February 8th, 1906. He made his formal concert debut at the age of 12 in Lodz, where he also studied at the Lodz Conservatory. Balsam first toured the U.S. in 1932 and settled in New York in 1940. Balsam was best known as a chamber player and an accompanist for violinists and cellists. He also performed in duos with Beveridge Webster, Gina Raps and Murray Perahia. Balsam made about 250 recordings as a soloist and accompanist. Aside from his recording and performings careers, Balsam also taught at Boston University, the Eastman School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. He died in 1994.
