Clara Haskil was born in Bucharest, Romania on January 7, 1895. She made her debut in Vienna in 1902 and later went to Paris as a pupil of Cortot. Haskil also briefly worked with Busoni in Berlin. Haskil was internationally known as a recitalist and concerto-player. Her repertoire was dedicated to the classical and early romantic periods, with particular emphasis on the Mozart concertos. Haskil also played many concerts in collaboration with violinist Arthur Grumiaux. Her recordings are available on the Westminster, DG, and Philips labels. She died in Brussels on December 7, 1960.
