RADU LUPU was born in Galatz, Romania in 1945. After initial studies in Bucharest, he enrolled at the Moscow Conservatory for lessons with Heinrich Neuhaus. He first attracted attention as the winner of the 1966 Cliburn Competition in Texas, followed three years later by a victory at the Leeds Competition in England. His New York debut took place in 1967. Lupu has been soloist with all the major orchestras and conductors, frequently playing the five Beethoven concertos, among many other works. His repertoire, reflected on his recordings for Decca, is dominated by the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Brahms.
