Goldman Band Program (1955)

Edwin Franko Goldman was exctremely concerned about the lack of music written specifically for the wind band. Until Goldman's time, bands relied mostly upon orchestral transcriptions and military marches as repertoire, however Goldman constantly sought new and original music for the band. For example, the concert shown here, performed 1 July 1995, contains a program of music entirely composed for band. Relatively unknown works for band by Wagner and Beethoven are mixed with recently commissed works like Paul Creston's Celebration Overture. [Goldman Collection II.6.1955]
